Babies and bowling

I've been lame about blogging...think I've got a little cabin fever going on. I'm going to hang out with my friend Heather tomorrow, if we don't get too much snow. Her husband is planning to take Macaroni and their oldest son out to play video games at the pizza place so that we can sit around and scrapbook. Okay, I'm going to sit around and Heather's going to scrapbook. Hopefully I'll get to play with the baby.

Speaking of babies, last weekend I got to hang out with Ruby all day, napping on the couch at my parent's house. She is the cutest thing ever so it was a great way to spend the weekend. Except that the reason I got to hang out with her was because our furnace went out. Twice. Thankfully we were having a nice warm spell so it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been. No frozen pipes, despite my nightmares. But it was $149 I could have spent on something else. Like a new tattoo. And I had to cancel my hair appointment so I'm still grey. Sucks.

What else? I just had my first Shamrock Shake of the year. It's pretty much the only time I step foot in McDonald's but I have to get my fix every March. The Office was super funny and the episode fit Joss perfectly. I love him long time. Hmmm, my imaginary boyfriend Ewan broke his leg in a motorcycle accident. Hopefully his last motorcycle accident. Ever. Poor baby.

Speaking of poor babies...what's up with Britney? I'm not a doctor, but that has got to be post partum depression, don't you think? I want to shave my head all the time so I understand the impulse. But actually doing it. In front of the paparazzi. After flashing your goodies at the entire world. I'm afraid its much worse than a run of the mill celebrity meltdown.

Not a whole lot else going on. We're bowling in Pro Choice Resources annual fundraiser again this year. It's on my mommy's birthday and she and my daddy are going to bowl with us this time! We always have a blast because it's held in a cute, old bowling alley where my dad used to set pins back before they were automated, plus they have great food and prizes. This year our team is called Supperland. Macaroni came up with it after misspelling Superland and we all decided we liked it better. We're never going to top our team name from the first year we bowled anyway. Lutheran Chicks for Choice. We bowled with a lot of women from church and Jboy didn't even mind being the only guy.

Anyway, that's what we've been up to. Heading to bed. Have a great weekend.

Too lazy for a Netflix review, so instead I give you photos.

Isn't she precious?

It's official

I'm freaking old. Just made my first ever hair color appointment. Professional color anyway. Haven't colored my hair since high school. Now there's grey involved. Shayne, remember when we burnt off about 3 inches of my hair? Silly white girls, bleaching my hair about a week after using relaxer to try and straighten it. Haystack head.
So, I was thinking of dying it black with blue ends in honor of Wondy, but now that Joss isn't writing her I'm not really feeling it. What color? Red? Green would be Macaroni's choice but I'm thinking that would clash with my skin.

Don't even get me started on my skin. I also made me first ever appointment with a dermatologist. Getting old sucks hard.

I did get the most awesomest Valentine presents yesterday. The boys gave me a cute plant. That I'm sure I'll kill in no time. My mommy and daddy gave me twenty bucks and a huge box of Hot Tamales. And in the package we got from Shayne I got another huge box of Hot Tamales (which I ate for dinner) and a yummy smelling Peace candle and the coolest Buddha ever. I'll post a photo once I get home. I love it long time. Ooh, and I almost forgot...a homemade card from Shayne! She's one of us after all.

Hugs and kisses kids.

Almost forgot this too (see, I am fucking old). Joss's (Joss'? Josses? I hate grammar) episode of The Office is on tonight! He directed. I've only seen the show a few times but it's a easy one to jump into, so no excuses. Joss on TV is always a good thing. I'll be expecting a book report first thing tomorrow.

Notice the quarter and Hot Tamale offering?

Thank you Shayne!

Tell me what you know about refinancing

I went to my mortgage company's website yesterday and got all excited when I filled out their little refinancing calculator. I really need to get our bathroom fixed before the boys and I die from mold poisoning but am so hesitant to get an estimate or apply for a loan after what happened last time. Uggh. I didn't read any of the fine print, if it was even there, but it sounds too good to be true. Who knows about interest rates and points and all that? I just want a simple fixed APR, is that too much to ask for? Actually, what I really want is to get home from work and find that my house has been completely remodeled and I owe nothing. Alas, that is too much to ask for.

Of course instead of sitting down and figuring everything out like an adult I've been planning not one, but two, potential vacations! My oldest friend T (oldest because we used to steal those big fat Crayola crayons from preschool, not because she's elderly) has invited me to join her in Europe the week of my birthday. She's going to be in Glastonbury for a workshop and wants to hit Scotland while she's there. T understands my thing about Scottish boys. Between this and the emails I keep getting from Walker's and Haggis Adventures I'm not sure I can resist. All I need is an announcement that my imaginary boyfriend will be starring in Brigadoon on the West End and I'm so there. Debt be damned.
The other trip is for my friend M's birthday in December. She's leaning toward Vegas, which I could really do without. I'll go, but I'd be okay if I never went back to Vegas. It's not my kind of town. If we go I'll be doing this, and this and eating here. And hopefully not passing out at the pool every morning, hungover and sun burnt like last time.
And of course there's my brother's wedding in May and all the expenses that come with a destination wedding. At least I've got good credit. For now.

Going home to bake cookies with the boys. I meant to do it last night but I got home late and then Veronica was on and I was stuck in the recliner. Such a good episode...run home and program your TIVOs or DVRs or whatever fancy contraptions everyone but me seems to have! I'm afraid she's not going to get another season and then I'll be without anything to watch on TV.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Score

Just won this on eBay, new but for way less. And I just got a confirmation that a big box of comics are on the way to me now. I'm reading pretty much everything by BKV. Such a huge nerd. Me, not him. Well, probably him too.

Plus I ordered this, because Joss and Jane told me to...

Celebrity endorsements!
Joss Whedon
"MY DEAD GIRLFRIEND is a perfect combination of the whimsical and the morbid. It's a warped, macabre view of high school that is absolutely accurate, except for the weird fantasy element of having a girlfriend. A delight."
Jane Espenson
"A fun, hilarious, and surprisingly touching carnival ride set in a fantastically complex world that remains grounded in very identifiable human emotion."
Can't wait to sit around reading and listening to lots of goodies. As long as it stays cold I'll keep blowing all my money on music and comics.

Nothing else going on really. Perhaps some interesting vacation news...coming soon!

Death is Buffy's gift, not mine

I’m not usually superstitious but I do believe in the importance of three. Not the hokey Charmed power of three but the whole triquetra thing. Father, Son and Holy Ghost; Maid, Mother and Crone; mind, body and soul.

I always leave lucky pennies laying on the ground because I can never remember if Shayne gets the heads or tails and I figure it’s better to leave them for someone else than it is to risk taking her luck. Wow, reading that makes me think maybe I’m super-superstitious.

Anyway, not to sound all doomsday-ish, but please be careful. Pet the black cats and walk under as many ladders as you like, just drive carefully and don’t get too stressed out or start juggling knives.

Friday after Macaroni’s grandma’s funeral I got a call from a very good friend of mine from New Orleans. She was in town for her uncle’s funeral. He was only 46 years old and one of the best people to go out drinking with. Seriously, he was an amazing guy. He had a heart attack while at the doctor’s office having his pace maker checked, was rushed to the hospital and suffered a series of seven or eight more heart attacks. They took him off life support the next day due to brain damage. Talk about a shitty weekend.

So, even though I’m not superstitious (or because I am SUPER freaky superstitious) be careful.

On a happier note, today is Baby K’s baptism anniversary. I wish I was there to see her in person, but her mom made the coolest 18-months-old-video-thingy ever! Follow the link to My Beautiful Goddaughter at the right. I’ll probably get fired if I watch it one more time.

Piles of poo

I've so been looking forward to the Wonder Woman movie but now, not so much. Joss just announced that he's no longer attached to the movie...guess half of the people spreading rumors about the purchase of another script were right. Here's what j himself had to say over at whedonesque:

Quote:
SATIN TIGHTS NO LONGER.
Joss will not be fighting for our rights after all. You (hopefully) heard it here first: I'm no longer slated to make Wonder Woman. What? But how? My chest... so tight! Okay, stay calm and I'll explain as best I can. It's pretty complicated, so bear with me. I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked. Hey, not that complicated.
Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that's never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don't think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views. The worst thing that can happen in this scenario is that the studio just keeps hammering out changes and the writer falls into a horrible limbo of development. These guys had the clarity and grace to skip that part.
So I'm a free man. Well, sorta. There is that "Goners" movie I can finally finish polishing, and plenty of other things in the hopper I've wanted to pursue. I'm as relieved as I am disappointed, and both of those things lead to drink, so that's a plus. Truly, you may be hearing some interesting things brewing in the coming months. But all potential jets therein will be visible.
But most importantly, I never have to answer THAT question again!!!! And you don't have to link to every rumor site!
Finally and forever: I never had an actress picked out, or even a consistant front-runner. I didn't have time to waste on casting when I was so busy air-balling on the script. (No! Rim! There was rim!) That's the greatest relief of all. I can do interviews again!
Thanks for your time. You are the people who make the world go 'round. Or, no, science does that.
-j.
ps All right, it was Cobie Smulders. Sorry, Cobes.

So I'm a little bit heartbroken but as always, Joss makes it all okay by bringing the funny. Hopefully the WW movie will still have a nice feminist feel so I can bring the kids but I don't know that I'll bother going opening weekend now.

What else? The funeral yesterday was fine, not awkward and not really all that sad. She wanted a positive service and it certainly was. Macaroni had a friend to run around the church fellowship hall with and our car didn't break down on the 2 hour ride home so no complaints. Although I do have a wicked kink in my neck from sleeping in the car.

Jboy
is having friends over today so I'm off to clean the house. It's way too cold to go outside anyway so I'll be watching movies and reading comics. (Just one month until this!)
Four and 1/2 stars. I loved this movie almost as much as I love Peter Sellers. Geoffrey Rush is amazing...there were times I wasn't sure if they were using old footage of Sellers because Geoffrey was so convincing. Very good, kind of sad and totally funny.

I'm back

Just got an email about this and thought I'd post it here in case people are accidentally ending up here from KK's site. These funds could prevent so many deaths, injuries and abortions every year it makes me crazy thinking about it.

Meh.

Macaroni’s grandmother passed away last Sunday after a long battle with brain cancer. He seems to be doing okay but doesn't really talk about it, even when I bring it up. He just seems quiet and tired. He’s been asleep in the car almost every night this week when I get off the train after work. Poor baby.

My parents are driving him down tonight for the visitation and he’ll spend the weekend with his dad. We’re going down tomorrow for the funeral. Hopefully someone will take the kid out skiing sometime this weekend.

I keep trying to remember my biological father’s funeral but there’s nothing much there. Besides the really ugly dress I wore and the little cross my half brother (who I don’t know) painted and left at his grave site. We hadn't seen him in years and my mom said she felt really out of place. Funerals are hard and weird anyway but I just feel like this is going to be really awkward. A few weeks after Macaroni was born his dad’s cousin died and we all went to the funeral together. That was weird and awkward which is probably why I’m thinking tomorrow will be too. I hope I’m wrong. I hope it’s more of a celebration. She was an amazing woman who will really be missed.

Netflix review: Elektra
We needed a distraction last night and luckily we had three movies waiting for us. Unfortunately, Elektra was the only one Macaroni could watch. It was okay. 2 ½ stars maybe? I’m a comic book nerd and a huge feminist, I should have loved this movie. My only real thoughts were: “props to Jennifer for doing so many of her own stunts” and “wow, this is so much better than Daredevil.” I don’t think I reviewed Daredevil here so I’ll let you in on a secret. It sucked beyond the telling of it.
This movie just makes me more antsy for Wonder Whedon. I mean Wonder Woman. Although this has people worried. And would they just hurry up and make the Y: The Last Man movie already?!?!?

Delicious

So I had a whole post written about how boring my life is right now and then the computer crashed. So instead of boring old me, I give you Nathan.

He is so very pretty. And has a new show coming out soon (with the mad genius Tim Minear) called Drive. Be sure to check it out so that it doesn't get cancelled after a handful of episodes. Someone that pretty should be on my TV screen constantly.

(Okay, I watch Firefly and Serenity all the time so Nathan is already on my screen constantly but he should be on every TV constantly. And lots of movie screens too.)

Nathan also has a movie that was just shown at Sundance and there's rumor that he'll be back on Lost. Okay, fangirly linking over. Have a great weekend!

Update: I am 28 days soda free. Hope Ewan is still not smoking because I'm so jonesing for a Jack and Cherry Coke.

So that sucked

We missed the concert the other night. It was freezing and although the doors were supposed to open at 8 o'clock we finally decided to bail nearly 30 minutes later. Poor Mary had tears running down her face, which is really not fun when it's only 10° outside.

Last night was a blast however. Macaroni participated in the Young Inventors Fair at his school and ended up on the news. Okay...in the background for about three or four seconds...but still, he was stoked! He did a great job with his Remote Cleaner invention, if only it could really clean his room.

Daddy must be driving!

Netflix review: But, I'm a Cheerleader
Cute, but not as good as Saved! Three stars.

Happy 34th Anniversary Roe!

Today of all days I wish I time to write a really good post. Pro choice bloggers are busy blogging about why they're pro choice today, the 34th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

Shayne turned me on to a great blog and Cecily did an excellent job explaining why she's pro choice right here. I'm sure there are thousands of other great blogs out there today. I'll also recommend this site and this one and of course this one.

I'm pro choice because I trust women to make the best decision for themselves. Best, not right or wrong. I think the decision to have an abortion is very personal and should remain private, between a women and her doctor and whoever else she chooses to involve. I know some women who are very anti choice because they regret their abortion. I can't even count the number of women I meet who regret giving birth. There's never going to be an easy answer, so if you don't like abortion...don't have one. Better yet, don't have unprotected sex.

People are not free unless they're allowed to make mistakes.

Every situation is different, every pregnancy is different and the consequences are different for everyone. I'm pro choice not only because I demand the right to decide if and when I'm going to have more children but also for Mandy and KK, and my boys and the millions of other men, women and children on the planet. We all deserve control of our bodies, if nothing else.

Here's a photo of my parents from a counter protest at PP on Good Friday last year. How cute are they? Now, let's hope there are some cute boys at the Rock for Roe show tonight!

Six weeks old

I spent the afternoon with Rubeydoobey and then hung out with the girls. We had SO much food, it was a little ridiculous.

Not much going on today. It's snowing and I've got plenty of cleaning to do, so we'll probably just hang out at home.

Tomorrow a couple of my friends are taking my goddaughter Mandy out for dessert. We're finally going to give her her Christmas present. It really shouldn't be so hard to get four people together. If only I had the social calendar of a sixteen year old.

After dessert my friend Mary and I are going to this in honor of the 34th anniversary. Should be a good time, staying out late on a school night.

Netflix review: Mansfield Park
Based on Jane Austen's book, five stars. Just a few minutes in and you totally get why Brangelin@ married Jonny Lee Miller. I've loved him since Trainspotting but he's just adorable in this one. Always a sucker for a period piece, Mansfield Park is sharp and smart and very, very pretty.

I've also recently watched Danny Deckchair (five stars), Mallrats: 10th Anniversary Extended Edition (five stars...I LOVE Kevin Smith & Jason Lee), Ocean's 11 and 12 (four & three stars), Sideways (4 stars? I remember liking it but not as much as I thought I might. Hype and all.) and a bunch of travel shows about Scotland. And one of my all time favorite movies Muriel's Wedding. Thanks Shayne!

Hang the paper lanterns

I'm going to a Chinese New Year party tonight and I can't wait. Is today even Chinese New Year? My friend Kata is having a little Girls Night at her place and is cooking all kinds of vegetarian yummies just for me. We're going to sit around and binge on vegan egg rolls, Salt and Pepper Tofu (Kata never would have thought about tofu if the recipe hadn't been in this month's Rachel Ray) and lots of other scrumptious nibblets. Kata is a great cook and has recently started doing some catering. After dinner they're going to binge on season two of some cop show...CSI, CI, CIU2. Are those even names of shows? CIU is a work term, so I'm pretty sure that one is wrong. Can you imagine?

**************************************************************
CIU: Central Imaging Unit.
Where mail is opened and documents are scanned.
On tonight's episode:
What the fuck happened to Jane Doe's pay stubs?!?!?
**************************************************************
Whatever,it's the one the Vincent D'Onofrio is on. I plan to fall asleep on the couch all fat and happy.

Nothing else to report really. The new job is going well. Very busy and sort of emotionally draining (all of the clients I see now are in crisis) but so much better than where I was. Jboy and Macaroni are good. J is bugging me to let him on the Internet (he just might get a laptop for his birthday after all) and M is with his dad this weekend, hopefully skiing now that it's finally cold.

I'm going to see Rubeydoobey this morning. Hopefully the two of us will get a little nap in before my party tonight!

Akemashite omedetou gozaimasu! (I think that's Happy New Year in Japanese...I need Uriel to help me spell in Chinese.)

Guess my middle name

I'm on the way to the mail box right now. To mail my "holiday" cards. Don't ask which holiday, I don't know.

I waited until the last minute, then the last second, then just sat around for awhile. Finally out of frustration and exhaustion I uploaded my little photo collage and ordered cards instead of printing them myself. (At least I didn't just go out and buy a new printer...as I have done twice in the past under similar circumstances.)

The company I ordered the cards from will remain nameless, however I will tell you that the name rhymes with Poop. And that's not just a funny coinkydink either. The cards are crap.

And still I'm dropping them in the mail tonight. The cards kind of reflect who I am and where I'm at this year. Still super disorganized, running late, too cheap to care about the cropped faces and words missing, hanging over the edge but loving every minute of it.

Okay, maybe not the ten minute walk to the mail box in 20°. But I am loving the rest of life right now, flaws and all.

What I wouldn't give for a little fizz

I haven't had any soda since New Year's Eve and I've got a killer headache to show for it. I think I've had plenty of caffeine, a Venti tea every morning and all the chocolate I can get my hands on. Cheap chocolate too, almost half of Macaroni's solid milk chocolate Santa. So much for that resolution.

I think I must be missing the carbonation. Every afternoon I start to crave a Pepsi. Or Dr. Pepper. I can hear the pop machine humming from my desk and just caught myself digging for quarters. We're going to Happy Hour tonight to celebrate my new job and I just know I'm going to cave and order a Jack and Cherry Coke. Which makes the real whiskey drinkers turn over in their graves I'm sure, but ever since the almost-mishap-in-Scotland with a cute 21 year old Aussie...I'm not allowed to drink whiskey straight.

So, what else is good to drink? I'm sure we'll be doing shots so maybe I'll just do a wussy Smirnoff Ice or something. Such a horrible dilemma, huh? What am I going to drink at the bar tonight? Sheesh, I'm lucky that this is my biggest problem right now.
I'll be hooking up the high speed internet at home this weekend and hope to finally get some photos and links and stuff up. Here's one to tide you over.

Happy New Year

So I actually made it to midnight this year. Of course I was playing Scrabble with Jboy and almost missed the countdown altogether. Not exactly a rockstar night but I whopped his ass so I guess that's a good way to start the year. Macaroni stayed up later than either of us...playing with a sword in his bedroom.

I haven't made a resolution in years but I was inspired by my boyfriend Ewan. He's going to try to quit smoking, again. So our resolutions this year are:

Macaroni: "To make Jboy not be mean." His brother has been super crabby all day, otherwise I'm sure this would have been "sucker mom into paying for cable and a plasma TV."

Jboy: "To get a frikken laptop already!" Again, he's super crabby.

Sunshine: To be better about staying in touch, writing letters/making phone calls. To have more fun. To eat less junk and better chocolate. To go skydiving in Vegas next December. To get a new tattoo. To take a class, maybe Japanese, maybe an art class. To seriously think about starting my own business. And most importantly, to sleep more. Goodnight!

Meme?

1. Explain what ended your last relationship?
Ewan's wife? Honestly, I can't remember back that far.

2. When was the last time you shaved?
This morning, but just the pits.

3. What were you doing this morning at 8 a.m.?
Reading emails, checking up on my boyfriends Ewan and Joss.

4. What were you doing 15 minutes ago?
Checking up on my boyfriends, again. I'm too tired to work.

5. Are you any good at math?
Not so much. I got an A in my College Algebra class, but probably only because I flirted with the professor.

6. Your prom night?
I went to prom with Jboy's dad because the dickhead told everyone we were going even though we broke up because I told him I wanted someone else to ask me. Thank goodness we don't always get what we want though, or Jboy could be a blond moron. Okay, prom. I had a wicked tan. We had dinner in the limo...went to the Taco Bell drive thru. And I cut in on my friend's ex boyfriend and his skanky date all night, just to be a bitch. I vaguely remember locking myself in the bathroom with a tub full of booze to avoid said baby daddy. That might have been another dance though.

7. Have you had to take a loan out for school?
Yes. And my grandma paid off all but a tiny bit too. And I'm sure I'll be taking out loans for Jboy's school very soon.

8. Do you know the words to the song on your myspace profile?
I don't think there's a song on my myspace page. I only go there to read Nathan's page. He's so hot.

9. Last thing received in the mail.
Two DVDs from amazon.com. Into the Woods (I heart this show!) and Serenity in high definition. I don't even own a hi def TV or DVD player.

10. How many different beverages have you had today?
A 20 oz bottle of Pepsi and about 3/4 bottle of water. Planning to down a bottle of Jack tonight at Happy Hour!

11. Do you ever leave messages on people’s answering machine?
Only when I have to and I always end up sounding like an idiot.

12. Who did you lose your CONCERT virginity to? Shayne says "Motley Crue of course!" but I think mine was actually KC and the Sunshine Band. I think I was like ten years old.

13. Do you draw your name in the sand when you go to the beach?
Always.

14. What was the most painful dental procedure you have had?
I had my bottom retainer removed after ten years on the same day that I had all four impacted wisdom teeth removed, without drugs. My bottom teeth shifting over the next few days hurt more than having the teeth pulled. Also qualifies as the funniest dental procedure: my dentist had to straddle the chair to get out one of the teeth.

15. What is out your back door?
KK's grandparent's house!

16. Any plans for Friday night?
Sleeping off the hangover from tonight?

17. Do you like what the ocean does to your hair?
I've never really paid attention to what the ocean does to my hair. The last time I was near the ocean was in Mexico. Even the hurricane was no match for my braids.

18. Have you ever received one of those big tins of 3 different popcorns?
Yes, but I only like the Carmel corn.

19. Have you ever been to a planetarium?
Yes, Jboy and I used to go all the time. Can't wait for it to reopen.

20. Do you re-use towels after you shower?
So many times it's embarrassing.

21. Some things you are excited about?
Mary's birthday party tonight. Starting my new job. Ewan's new movie. Hanging out with Ruby.

22. What is your favorite flavor of JELL-O?
I don't eat JELL-O. I try to avoid gelatin because it's made from bones and hooves and other animal parts.

23. Describe your keychain(s)?
A swag Serenity keychain (big shocker), Borders discount card and a Japanese lion/dog thingy. All that for one key.

24. Where do you keep your change?
Mostly in the couch.

25. What kind of winter coat do you own?
Wow, something I already blogged about.

26. What was the weather like on your graduation day?
Humid! The football field smelled like mosquito spray and stale beer from our party the night before.

27. Do you sleep with the door to your room open or closed?
Closed. My brother is a firefighter, it's the law.

28. Tag three people: I don't know anyone else who blogs so I'll just wander around the floor at work and randomly tag three people. And then run away real fast.

Oh Holy Crap...Christmas is finally over...

We had a very nice Christmas but I'm so glad it's over. Between the last minute craziness of making gifts I should have finished months ago, baking like Martha Stewart channeling Jerry Lewis and receiving a very tempting email from Haggis Adventures, I just wasn't in the Christmas spirit. So I spent Christmas Eve watching A Clockwork Orange and painting a jacket for my niece Rubydoobey. Just call me Ebenezer.

The boys are meeting me downtown after work, no doubt to sucker me into buying video games.

I'll post photos and stuff later...and I need to do a meme. First I need to find out what a meme is, then I have to do it. Ooh, and I got the coolest shoes from Jboy for Christmas! I'll have to post a photo of those.

More later...

It's a Christmas miracle

I just got in and out of the post office in less than 10 minutes. 10 minutes! Oh, how I love those automated machines. I was secretly laughing at all the suckers waiting in line to talk to an actual person. And I even had a little old lady watching over my shoulder, asking me questions and doing her best to slow me down. She reminded me of the little pick pocket from Dirty Dancing. I bet Shayne knows her name.

So I mailed packages to my sister and to Baby K. Total homemade, or handmade in KK's case, Hammer gifts. But super cool I think. I hope they think so too, because I'm too broke for real presents this year. In addition to the last minute post office run I've been trying to finish up the rest of my shopping online. Lots of free shipping offers...but not for the things I want.

I won't even start about the five dozen brownies I had to make for a cookie exchange last night. Of course I waited until the very last minute...9:45 PM...and almost had to call KK's grandma for an egg.

Quote of the day comes from Jane: "Remember, it's a sculpture and you're Michelangelo. Chisel away enough stone and there might be a naked guy inside." Have I mentioned that I love her?

Flame on

It worked, I got the job!
