I wanted to be an artist when I grew up, but I forgot to grow up

Jo Chen is one of my favorite artists, her covers are remarkably lifelike. I have this one in my bedroom...
which I won at this last year (and am going to tomorrow, Friday and Saturday at the Riv) People celebrating Joss's birthday all over the globe, for charity no less. I'm going to try not to suck and bail out on any of them, but I'm worried that I'm too old to do three late movies in a row.
...which I guess might explain some things, huh?
Heather, if you're reading this you and Ephous should get a babysitter and come with one night!
Anyway...here's Jo's latest cover. Isn't it pretty?

They're watching my favorite imaginary cartoon, the animated Buffy project that never got picked up. That would've been something to get out of bed for on Saturday mornings!

Long but funny! That's what she said...

Okay, I must be missing The Office but this post was too funny (and by funny I mean "I cannot fucking wait until the election is over!") not to link to. Bonus Joss reference that almost made me pee myself.

I want to go "camping"

Here. For my 40th birthday, better start saving now!

Sick day

Stayed home sick and got NOTHING done today. Jboy's graduation announcements are sitting on the table, nowhere near finished. I should have run to Archiver*s today to pick up the rest of the envelopes but there was so much sleeping to do. Sleeping and looking at cute puppy pictures!

Speaking of pictures, here are a few shots from the weekend. We had fun at Marie's wedding shower and Jboy's graduation.

Food diary

I think I'd almost rather publish my actual diary. From tenth grade.

S.P. + E.T. = 4ever!

But supposedly this is a good way to shame me into eating better. I mean encourage me to eat better. I found this site to get estimates for Calories, Fat, Saturated Fat, Fiber & Protein, but I don't know how accurate it is.

Here goes:

Breakfast:
bowl of Special K Vanilla Almond (110 C/1.5 g F/0 g Sat Fat/1 g F/2 g P)
Vanilla Soymilk (100 C/3.5 g F/.5 g Sat Fat/1 g F/6 g P)
banana (207 C/2 g F/1 g Sat Fat/ 10 g F/4 g P)
Lunch:
Wasa Hearty Crispbread x 2(90 C/0 g F/0 g Sat Fat/2 g F/1 g P)
wedge of Laughing Cow cheese (35 C/2 g F/1 g Sat Fat/0 g F/2.5 g P)
2 slices of Smart Deli Turkey Style (40 C/0 g F/0 g Sat Fat/.5 g F/7.5 g P)
Snack:
medium size pear (90 C/0 g F/0 g Sat Fat/2 g F/0 g P)
wedge of Laughing Cow cheese (35 C/2 g F/1 g Sat Fat/0 g F/2.5 g P)

So I've already eaten at least 700 calories and I'm still hungry. I'd eat all day long if I could. And many days I can. Hmm. What am I doing wrong?

Adolph's doppleganger, accidental bikini wax and other musings

Have you ever seen someone and have all the hairs on the back of your neck stand up? And I'm not talking about Mike Whatshisface from high school...you look at him and just taste vomit. I'm talking scary. I totally saw the reincarnation of Hitler today and it's still giving me the heebee jeebees. Or however you spell heebee jeebee. Yeesh.

I've have a migraine all day and had a very unfortunate incident with a pantyliner this morning. Not a good day.

Jboy got a very nice award last night (Advanced Placement Honors/English Lit & Comp) at the Senior Recognition thing, but sadly no $$$. And when we got home we had a huge fight about why he didn't get any $$$. How many days until we move him into the dorm?

Two of the scholarship donors last night were really cool...one couple who graduated in 1995 for fucksake! Can you imagine being in a position to give a scholarship just 13 years after you graduated from high school? I suppose a lot of people can, just not the people I know. The other donor that really impressed me was very sad, Jboy's friend Anthony won. I tried not to cry because all of Jboy's friends were sitting by us, but it took everything I had. What a remarkable family!

Heading off to find something to wear to graduation. Uggh. If I were any more bloated I'd pop. Because I'd totally shove a knitting needle in my gut. After going to the store to buy a knitting needle for the sole purpose of popping my bloated belly.

I had 210 calories for breakfast and 415 calories for lunch today. I'm so not a calorie counter but my friend is doing WW and mentioned it so I counted today. 16.5 grams of fat, 1.5 sat fat. I have no idea if that's good or bad. Anyone?

Okay...here I go shopping. Any minute now.

I love that tree

Jboy is in the business magnet at his school and their business partner, GE, had a graduation ceremony for the kids on Thursday night. It was a really nice program and thankfully we didn't get caught in the storm on the ride out to Eden Prairie. All of the kids got a backpack full of stuff; pens, notebooks, an organizer, flashlight and a pedometer, along with a nice certificate. Sadly no scholarship money but since the company laid off Jboy's mentor I guess that's to be expected.

Crappy photo, trying very hard not to embarrass him

Yesterday Macaroni and I went to the Science Museum (with free tickets Jboy got from GE). We had a lot of fun seeing this, diagnosing diseases and playing mini golf. We were there for over four hours. Afterwards we went to dinner with my parents.

Today I laid around watching the final episodes of M0narch of the Glen and working on graduation announcements for Jboy. Lots more of that to do.

So many of my favorite photos from my trip to Scotland were of the graveyards that I decided to bring my camera along on Memorial Day this year. Although the cemeteries in Scotland were so old and amazing, it's different knowing you're related to people instead of just wondering if you are.

It's almost midnight so I better get to bed. Can't believe how fast the weekends fly by...I need to win the lottery!

Dirty old lady

Macaroni and I went to see this movie here last night. It wasn't at all what I expected but I loved it and so did Macaroni. Surprised I didn't get arrested for thinking about doing naughty things with Shia...who is only 3 years older than Jboy. "Dirty, dirty, dirty" she says with a smile on her face.

The theater recently (to me anyway) changed ownership and not only has Cherry Icee but they have free refills of Cherry Icees! I had three of my own, and half of Macaroni's refill. Super sugar high. It's almost soda but not quite. Shut up, it's not cheating! Anyway, the movie has me jonesing (get it? Jonesing?) for a vacation. I'd be happy to go anywhere but the Peruvian jungle looked great. Although I think it was actually filmed in Hawaii. And Hawaii is probably one of the last places I'd pick to go. Not that I don't want to go there, just that there are so many other places I'd rather go first.

Speaking of vacation, Macaroni is going to Alaska with his dad for two weeks. Jboy and I are very jealous.

Not much going on. Busy thinking about Jboy's graduation. Just thinking about it is making me crazy, can you imagine what a mess I'll be once I start actually doing stuff for his graduation? Uggh. We're going to a pseudo graduation ceremony for him tonight at GE, the business partner of his magnet. I'm still hoping for a scholarship because damn, could we ever use it!

Lazyboy injury

My weekend of extra laziness resulted in a bizarre hip injury. How do you pull a muscle in your leg by laying around?

Seriously, all I got out of bed (or the recliner) for was to make tea and pee.

I got nothing

People as boring as me probably shouldn't be allowed to have a blog. I laid around the house all day, watched a couple of movies, napped, made a to do list that I'll probably never get around to actually doing. And just now got Jboy to get off the computer so that I could email Mandy her prom photos.

Speaking of Mandy, we're going to get piercings tomorrow, if they're open.

And now I'm off to watch the coverage of the tornado that hit today...and be thankful that once again we're all safe. It was part of the same system as the F3 that hit Colorado last week, which was way too close to Shayne and KK.

I'm in the wrong business

So I finally got around to calling the data recovery place that the G33k Squad referred me to when they couldn't retrieve our photos from Washington DC. All 700 of them. I got so excited when the first guy told me that it would be about $100 to attempt to restore the images. $100 for 700 photos? Many of which Macaroni took of the cherry blossoms, $100 would be so worth it. Then I was transferred to someone who knew what he was talking about. It's $100 to analyze the card and between $400 and $1,600 to actually retrieve the images, if they're salvageable. Craptacular!

It really will be cheaper to take Macaroni back to DC. I'm still very sad that those cherry blossom photos are gone. The Tidal Basin was just beautiful and I had so many close ups of blossoms for tattoo potential. Damn wi-fi card! At least Auntie Shayne has expressed an interest in going with us next time, maybe next spring?

Had fun last night at Jboy's birthday party. We went bowling with my parents, my brothers & their families and two of Jboy's friends. I think everyone had a good time although I bowled worse than ever. Still not worse than Macaroni though. My elbow and back are aching today, I can't believe I've gotten too old to bowl. Guess that's what happens when you have ADULT CHILDREN. Uggh.

Going home to sleep away my holiday weekend. Be safe everyone!

Happy 18th Birthday Jboy!

Happy birthdays to Ephous (did I spell that right Heath?) and Janell's twins too, but mostly to Jboy, because he's mine.

I wish I had more photos of him but he's usually a dick about getting his picture taken. And he'd stroke if he knew I was putting them online. Yep, I'm one of those mean mommies.

Even this first one though, look at how little he was. Braces and short hair. And a pimp hat! He might make me absolutely batshit crazy but I love that kid.

I mean man, I love that man. Nope, doesn't sound right...he'll always be my baby. How's that Jboy? Embarrassing enough?

Smells like awesome

I can't believe we have to wait until January for this.

Prepping for Prom

For some reason Holly's photos are all tiny. I forgot to bring my camera with when Mandy and I went over there to get her ready for the dance so all but one of these are from Holly's email. I still haven't seen the photos of Mandy in her dress and with her date, can't wait to see those.

Still shopping, only five hours to go!

I haven't used a curling iron since high school

Sticking on fake eyelashes

Trying not to poke her eyes out

Wow, can't believe I ever wanted to be a make up artist. I was so afraid of screwing up her eyes...I guess practice does make perfect.

I was nice enough not to spit on the Q-tip myself

Holly's fancy glitter eye shadow

Teasing the 'do

Smokin'!

It was fun, and at times funny, helping her get ready. How cute that she wanted us to help her and not one of her friends. I love that baby girl.

Learning to love Jim Carrey

Love might be too optimistic. Maybe not gag at the sight of him? My imaginary boyfriend is making a movie with Jim Carrey so I'm going to have to learn to like him. A movie where they play lovers, so I'm even gonna be jealous!

I don't know what it is about him (I know, I know, he's been really great in a few movies) but I look at him and taste vomit. Just like the lame gold lamé wearing boy in high school...Mike Somebody. Yuck!

Not much else going on. My allergies are still kicking my ass...didn't make it out of bed yesterday and didn't make it to work today. I've got tons to do too: Jboy's 18th birthday and his graduation party are the two big ones.

And I just found out that Jboy's too old to get the $300 Economic Stimulus money. Too bad I already spent it on his birthday present. I let Macaroni's dad claim him on his taxes even though he doesn't pay anywhere near 50% so I get no child bonus. So much for a new bathroom window or laundry room. I'm sure I can still squeeze in a vacation though, always money for that.

Won't bore you with any of the Dollhouse news...until we get something really exciting like the 8 minute preview they showed at upfronts last week. I am going to link to this video of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie) wrap party. Joss is famous for not hiding his disappointment in the way the movie turned out, although I'm always impressed with the way he talks about the director. It was her movie after all. And thank the gods that she went another way or Joss never would have made the tv show. The video is kind of long and boring, until the last couple of seconds. Who knew Joss was a back up dancer for New Kids on the Block? The early 90's were kind of no one. So funny, I totally recommend this one. (He comes in at about 6:55.)

Belated Mother's Day photos...

Happy Birthday ShaLisa!

I tried to find an old photo from high school floating out on the interwebs...no luck. Although every Roosevelt High in the country had scary big hair in the late 80's.

Have fun on your dolly trip!

First Dollhouse promo pic

from here
But what might be the year's most anticipated drama is Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" (right). Eliza Dushku, who enlivened the final seasons of "Buffy," stars as one of an underground group who have their personalities "wiped" and replaced with new ones in order to better carry out their secret missions.

and
Someone just asked the execs how they decided whether to give "Fringe" or "Dollhouse" the fall launch. Entertainment President Kevin Reilly - I think it was him, anyway - said it was "a high-class problem to have." Whedon had seven scripts written from the get-go, but Abrams finished pilot production sooner. Whdeon welcomed the extra time, the execs said.

FOX PRIMETIME SCHEDULE: BEGINNING JANUARY 2009
