Now I know what some of you are thinking. “It’s about damn time, Sunshine.” But really, it’s not that kind of diet. Although Lord knows I should lose weight too, this is a financial diet. I was pre-approved for the loan that I’ve been yapping about since I started this blog and may finally get going on the whole home improvement thing. Which scares me more than…well, something really, really scary. Like Christopher Walken scary.
So, because I really don't want to get a second job, it’s time to list shit on eBay and start painting jackets to sell. And most importantly, stop spending so much money. No more new comic book subscriptions. No more daily Starbucks. No more movies, at least until they hit the Riv.
(Thank goodness we saw The Simpson’s Movie last week! Ooh, and I've already paid for my Serenity Collector's Edition, the Office Season 3 and Veronica Mars Season 3. See, it pays to be a big enough geek to preorder everything.)
No more than two tattoos a year. And no more vacations. Except the two already on my list…and Disneyworld anytime Shayne and KK are ready. Cause I’m already saving for all of those. Gah, I’m not a budget kind of girl. But I really have to do this. This time.
So, August first is the dreaded day. And just to torture myself, I’m going to try to exercise everyday until my cruise. And by exercise I mean riding that silly glider while watching episodes of Buffy. There are 144 episodes of Buffy and 122 days until the cruise. Many, many episodes of Buffy cannot be watched alone (crossovers with Angel, part 1 & 2’s and “oh my holy crap I just can’t turn this off”) and then there’s always watching an episode over with commentary, so I'm gonna aim for 2 episodes a day.
Crap. Okay, see how quickly I ran away from the financial part of the financial diet? That I’d rather exercise than follow a budget? I’m obviously ill. Are there meds for this sort of thing?
The awesome thing is that this refinancing will pay off everything. One big fat loan instead of a mortgage; a second mortgage; a line of credit and credit card bills. The unawesome thing is that a zero balance on my credit cards is probably going to make that last minute trip to Europe or Japan or Colorado that much harder to resist. I have no spine.
So, here are my goals/things I need to accomplish in the next couple of weeks:
1. Finish the loan application
2. Get bids (I’ve already found two companies on angieslist and think one more should probably be enough)
3. Set up an appointment with the Remodeling Advisor I found out about at a local home improvement fair. It’s a program through our neighborhood association. They do an informational visit and help with the collection and evaluation of bids. So what I need, and way better than a husband.
4. Finally upload photos from Shayne and KK’s visit and new ones of Ruby. Not that this has anything to do with anything, I just haven’t been able to do it at home because we’ve got another worm or virus or some such on our computer.
5. Get the computer fixed.
